Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you, Are you willing to come into our office or travel to customer sites?
I have residences close to both Boston, MA and Seattle, WA. I'm ready and eager to travel wherever and whenever it best supports the team and our customers. With over eight years of experience working primarily remotely with global teams, I know how to foster strong collaboration and connection, no matter the distance. I’ll do what it takes!
What industries and types of businesses have you worked in?
I've worked across a diverse range of industries, including FinTech, Insurance, Healthcare, Hospitality, Construction, Corporate e-Learning, Retail, Manufacturing, and Digital Imaging. My experience spans from founding and running my own business to contributing at medium and large enterprises with thousands of employees. I've been part of a growth-stage startup and have also worked with multiple consultancies, giving me a well-rounded perspective on different business models and product challenges.
Do you have any technical skills?
My technical experience spans traditional and web-based applications, SaaS products, APIs, third-party system integrations, AI, SQL and NoSQL databases (including hands-on query writing and data architecture understanding), microservices architecture, and containerized cloud deployments in both Azure and AWS. While I have a foundational understanding of coding from college coursework and early career exposure, my real strength lies in bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. I quickly grasp complex technical concepts, enabling me to make informed product decisions and effectively communicate across teams.
Why the recent break in your career?
My recent career break was intentional, refreshing, and ultimately an asset to both myself and future teams. After dedicating several years to a single employer, client, and product, I chose to step back to travel, recharge, update my skills, and gain clarity on how I can contribute at my highest level. This time away has given me a fresh perspective, renewed energy, and a deeper sense of purpose—benefits that I’m eager to bring to your team and product.
What are some opportunities for personal growth that you have identified?
I’m upskilling right now in the areas of product discovery and user insight. I seek more and updated tools and techniques to effectively understand customer needs and latent opportunities. Also, I want to find faster and better ways to absorb new information about industry trends, tools, and techniques. I dedicate a significant amount of time to this, but I think I can do it more efficiently. The most valuable learning happens in the context of a specific product and company, so I look forward to identifying any knowledge gaps relevant to your company, industry, and product—proactively and rapidly closing them.
How are you using AI to be a better Product Manager?
I’m intrigued with how AI will help our world going forward. I’m trying to keep up with the quickly evolving technology, and use it wherever it makes sense to do so to increase efficiency, thoughtfully accelerate the more basic tasks we do every day, and perhaps more importantly as a new way to tap into the vast knowledge and wisdom of the collective, elevating us all. “A rising tide lifts all boats”. I’m also constantly thinking about how it can be used in our products to enable our users to do all these same things.
For example, I used ChatGPT to refine and organize a ‘brain dump’ into a well-structured answer to the next question about how I’d come up to speed in a new environment, with minimal edits, saving me significant time. Done thoughtfully, this approach can free up hours for real Product Management work. When AI responses feel too different from my voice or say something slightly different than I’m trying to say, I selectively incorporate its input while keeping my writing intact.
How will you come up to speed with my company / product?
This will of course be specifically tailored to the company I'm working with, but here is an incomplete slice of what I consider:
Information Gathering & Relationship Building
To deeply understand our customers, I want to engage with them directly—ideally in their place of business—to see firsthand how they work, the challenges they face, and how they use our products. I also want to speak with (as applicable):
-
Prospective customers to understand why they haven't chosen our product.
-
Customers who selected competitors to learn what drove their decision.
-
Marketing and Sales teams to gain insight into messaging strategy, value proposition, and the competitive landscape.
-
Legal, Finance, and Compliance teams to understand constraints and their impact on the product.
Internally, I’ll spend time with:
-
Designers and engineers (especially tech leads or architects) to understand past decisions and current challenges.
-
Support teams to identify recurring issues and quick wins that could make a major impact.
-
Product teams to review the roadmap, backlog, strategy, and current success metrics.
-
Customer engagement processes to assess how we conduct product discovery and capture user feedback.
-
Ultimately, I aim to become an expert on:
-
Our customers and the marketplace we serve.
-
Our product and how it is currently delivered and supported.
-
Any existing short- and long-term vision, strategy, and success metrics.
-
The constraints and challenges shaping our decisions.
Gap Analysis
With a fresh perspective, I will evaluate the current strategy and ongoing initiatives against what I’ve learned, ensuring alignment with company vision and objectives. Key questions include:
-
Customer Understanding – Are we fully grasping their needs, motivations, and constraints?
-
Product Fit – Are there gaps between what we deliver and what our customers (and business) truly need?
-
Strategic Alignment – Do our product strategy, roadmap, and backlog effectively drive us toward our vision?
Driving Continuous Improvement
Through collaborative synthesis, I’ll work with stakeholders to refine our strategy and execute a set of coherent, deliberate actions to accelerate progress toward desired outcomes.
This isn’t a one-time process—it’s continuous. Product discovery, customer insights, compliance considerations, and strategic updates must be ongoing and iterative.
Evangelism & Advocacy
Internally, I’ll champion alignment across teams, ensuring everyone is working toward a shared vision. Externally, I want to build trust and excitement with customers—so they know we are committed to their success. I want to enable you to shake a customer's hand at a trade show or stand on a stage at an industry conference and say:
“Look at this incredible product we’ve built—designed to make your life easier and your business more profitable.”
